9.9.9. - A day of giving that will make Speed the Light history.

Can you imagine what $900,000 could mean to our missionaries?

6 semi trucks
30 new cars, mini-vans or SUVs
90 new sound systems
180 new video projectors as well as other media equipment that helps develop biblical training DVDs

Just one sound system brought Anwar* from Nigeria the message that he was loved even though he is an outcast of his village - dying of AIDS.

Just one van brought Malila* from Bombay away from a life of sex slavery.

Just one SUV brings missionary Joel Marbut through the rain forest of Ecuador to take the gospel to remote.

Just one radio station broadcast in Iceland takes the message of God's love across the airwaves of a country that is desperate for hope.

The results of just one seed planted through Speed the Light = countless souls saved and lives changed for the Kingdom.

Since its start in 1944 students across the nation have corporately raised nearly $236 million for Speed the Light, which equips missionaries across the globe with essential transportation and creative communication equipment. But the need on the field is still great.

Currently there are $23 million in approved opportunities to reach this world with the gospel. As of January 2009, 189 U.S. Missions and 1,765 World Missions projects are still waiting for funding.

Can you imagine yourself - just one person - as a part of a group of 900 students just like you, committed to raise an extra $100 each for Speed the Light to help us help our missionaries?
But the potential doesn't stop there.

Can you imagine if you were one of 90,000 students joining the cause?
Now just imagine what $9 million could do.

You can be a part of making this vision a reality on 9.9.9 (Wednesday, September 9, 2009) as you and your youth group take part in the biggest Speed the Light offering ever taken around the nation.

Youth from across the nation will rally together in spirit for 9ine, in order to catapult this year by responding to the need to give on above and beyond on what Speed the Light has ever done before...

In just one offering...
On just one day...
Are you up to the challenge?

About Speed the Light

The concept is simple: we give so others can speed the light of the gospel to a world in darkness. This is accomplished by providing the “essential transportation and creative communication” equipment for missionary evangelism. Through modern transportation, radio, television, the printed word, and equipment for mass evangelism, our missionaries can better fulfill the Great Commission.

Speed the Light (STL) is the student-initiated, volunteer, charitable program that provides much-needed equipment to missionaries across the nation and in over 180 countries around the world. Since its beginning, STL has raised over $220 million for missionary equipment around the world. (For more information on STL, click here: Knowing Speed the Light.)

Speed the Light began in 1944 after Ralph Harris, then head of the National Youth Ministries department, prayed for a way to give A/G students the opportunity to help missionaries in their work. Now, by providing ministry equipment to our missionaries, STL is training the young people of America to develop individual ownership of the Great Commission as they help our missionaries spread the gospel message to the lost.

Today, Speed the Light is one of the most effective youth missions ministries in the church world. Assemblies of God students have accepted a great responsibility to voluntarily sacrifice and raise funds to purchase the equipment. STL operates with one guiding principle: All assistance must go to purchase equipment directly related to evangelism (“evangelism” is defined as propagating the gospel and instructing converts). STL equipment has not been nor is presently given for promotion, solicitation, or normal administrative functions.

If our missionaries are going to get to where the lost live, it will be because of Speed the Light. Every missionary in the Assemblies of God will at some point fly, drive, or float to their destination in transportation that has been provided to them by our churches and students through Speed the Light. Airplanes, cars, vans, motorcycles, bicycles, trucks, buses, boats, horses, camels, donkeys, wheel barrows, etc., if it has wheels or hooves and can carry a missionary to a country, city, town, village, or under a card board box where someone is waiting to hear about Jesus, Speed the Light has provided it.

We give so our missionaries can travel faster, preach clearer, and be heard louder, in order that that Heaven might be a bigger place…filled with people from every nationality, color, and tribe who have accepted Him as their Savior.
